Turkish Deputy Prime Minister responsible for Cyprus Affairs Recep Akdağ stated recently that the South Cyprus has become the spoiled child of the West.

Commenting on the Cyprus issue, Akdağ said: “The TRNC is a strategic area for Turkey. Moreover, our brothers live there. South Cyprus has become the spoiled child of the West and this is why the Cyprus problem has not been solved so far. They have caused a deadlock in  relations with the European Union. As a result the negotiations end without reaching a solution each time.”

Akdağ also commented on relations between Turkey and the TRNC and highlighted that the TRNC has an important potential for growth and development.
