Conservation works completed at the historic Akkule Gate in Gazimağusa

The conservation works underway on the historic Akkule Land Gate, which is located at the entrance of the walled city in Gazimağusa, have been completed.

A ceremony was held in Akkule yesterday to mark the completion of the conservation project, which was funded by the European Union and carried out by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Officials from the UNDP, EU and the UN, as well as experts and academics involved in the project attended the ceremony, which also drew widespread interest from the general public.

The Deputy Chiefs of Mission and Ambassadors to the Greek Cypriot side from 12 countries, most of which are EU members, also participated in the ceremony.

The UK, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Finland, Czechoslovakia and Bulgaria were represented by their Ambassadors, while the United States and the Netherlands sent their Deputy Chief of Mission to attend the ceremony in Gazimağusa.
