Eide: “Deadlock has not been overcome”

The UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide has said that there is still work to be done before the two leaders can return to the negotiating table, but that ongoing efforts to achieve this are promising.

President Akıncı received the UN envoy Espen Barth Eide yesterday.

In his statement following the meeting, Eide said that he had a very long and constructive meeting with Akıncı, including updating Akıncı about his international meetings in support of the negotiation process, including his Washington visit. Stating that the Washington visit was very fruitful, Eide noted that the support of the US, which is crucial in terms of a successful outcome, is ongoing.
