In his speech at the Parliamentary General Assembly, Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu stated although the partnership government did not continue legally after 1964, the UN Security Council continues to act as though this is the case.

Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu said, “The Greek Cypriot side is considered a ‘state’ while the Turkish Cypriot side is a ‘community’ on the international stage. We cannot find a solution to this problem in this way.”

Ertuğruloğlu stated that while the Greek Cypriot side continues to be given recognition, no solution has been achieved for the Turkish Cypriot side, which continues to suffer under embargoes despite its complaints.

Referring to the options he had proposed, Ertuğruloğlu emphasized that it is unacceptable to return to the same negotiation process, which has been unsuccessful for the last 50 years.
