The 43rd anniversary of the liberation of Gazimağusa was celebrated with a ceremony yesterday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Gazimağusa Mayor İsmail Arter said that the liberation of Gazimağusa marked a turning point “between existence and annihilation”. He added that the liberation should be celebrated to motivate everyone into action and keep the national consciousness alive; to build a new future without forgetting the past.

Arter said, “We must work to protect these lands that have been watered with the blood of martyrs. The Turkish Cypriot people will never give up their sovereignty or make any concessions on the fundamental rights they have gained.”
