Martyred Deputy Cengiz Ratip remembered on the 54th anniversary of his death

Cengiz Ratip, who was martyred while serving as a member of the Turkish Community Assembly, was remembered on the 54th anniversary of his death at the Martyr Cengiz Ratip Library at the TRNC Assembly.

Cengiz Ratip’s son, Mustafa Kemal Gökeri, and Speaker of the Assembly Teberrüken Uluçay spoke at the ceremony.

Ratip, who was elected as a Member of Parliament on 10th of September 1961, was killed in an ambush by Greek Cypriots in Poli on the 14th of February 1964. His remains have not yet been found.

Speaking at the ceremony, his son Mustafa Kemal Gökeri said that his father was the only martyred deputy and that he was killed in an ambush by Greek Cypriots while on duty at 33 years of age. Gökeri expressed his sadness over the missing remains of his father, which he described as a “bleeding wound for his family”.
