Martyrs from the struggle for existence commemorated with ceremonies and events

As part of the 21-25 December Struggle and Martyrs Remembrance Week, President Mustafa Akıncı, Speaker of the Assembly Sibel Siber, Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün, 2nd President Mehmet Ali Talat, Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Derya Kanbay, Martyrs’ Families and War Veterans Association officials and members as well as ministers, parliamentarians, political party representatives, military officials have attended a ceremony held at the Martyrs Monument in Lefkoşa.

President Akıncı wrote the following in the special book of commemoration:

“We commemorate you once more with gratitude and respect on the 54th Anniversary of 21 December 1963. You sacrificed your lives so that the Turkish Cypriot people could live in peace and freedom in this land. It is thanks to your great sacrifice that we look to the future on our land with confidence. We will strive to establish a good future so that the next generations can live in peace, equality, security, and prosperity. Such a future will be established on the back of your sacrifices. We commemorate you once more with respect.”

As part of the Remembrance Week, a Martyrs Remembrance programme was also held at the Atatürk Cultural Centre in Lefkoşa.
