TRNC Speaker of the Assembly Sibel Siber continues her meetings at the 10th Plenary session of the Asia Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Istanbul.

Over the course of the Plenary, which began on Tuesday 21 November, Siber attended a number of sessions, including the transition of the APA presidency from Cambodia to Turkey. The Speaker was present at the Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs and the Women Parliamentarians meeting, where representatives gave presentations on the state of female empowerment in their countries.

Speaker Siber was also invited to a dinner hosted by Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım and Speaker of the Turkish Parliament İsmail Kahraman in honour of the parliamentary delegations from 32 countries around the world. Siber also gave media interviews to Anadolu Agency, TBMM TV, Azerbaijan State Television, Azeri IZ TV and Space TV.

During her participation in the conference, Siber addressed the latest developments on the Cyprus issue and the status of the negotiation process. She called on the international community to remove the unfair isolations imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people. Emphasising the importance of Turkey’s APA presidency for the TRNC’s representation at the APA Plenary, Siber underlined the importance of dialogue for peace today. Speaker Siber also pointed to the injustice of elected Turkish Cypriot representatives being denied access to international fora for dialogue like the APA.
