The 43rd anniversary of the massacre in Taşkent was commemorated with a ceremony earlier this week.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Head of Yukarı Taşkent Durmuş Aşandır commemorated the occasion 43 years ago, on 14 August 1974 that Greek militant forces killed 84 people from the villages of Taşkent and Terazi.
Aşandır said that Turkey exercised its 1960 guarantor rights and organised the Cyprus Peace Operation on 20 July 1974, saving the Turkish Cypriot people from the massacre.
He added, “The only thing we want is the continuation of Turkey’s full and effective guarantee. Today’s painful ceremony is a reminder of why we shall not say ‘yes’ to any agreement that does not include Turkey’s guarantee.”
