Akıncı met with Pittella

President Mustafa Akıncı met with the leader of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament Gianni Pittella who is having contacts in Cyprus. No statement was made about the meeting.

Pittella also visited the leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) and 2nd President of the TRNC Mehmet Ali Talat.

In his speech at the meeting, Talat expressed his sadness regarding the terrorist attack in Brussels and he stated that the whole of humanity is shocked by these attacks.

Talat also stated that he is ready to hold meetings and exchange views with the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists & Democrats.

Moreover, Talat said that Pittella’s visit to the island will help to improve their relations. Touching upon the Cyprus negotiations process, Pitella said he was visiting the island to contribute to the peace and the reunification process, adding that they supported a solution on the island based on the EU values and the UN resolutions.
