26 May, 2016Greek Cypriot Fileleftheros newspaper wrote that the Greek Cypriot administration considers the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide as responsible for the tension in İstanbul due to President Akıncı being invited to the dinner reception in the framework of the World Humanitarian Summit and indicated that the UN official is no longer seen as a valid inter-mediator.
The report was detailed in the inner pages with the title “Unwanted Man Eide” and indicated that Akıncı’s attendance at the dinner and his meeting with Ban ki-Moon greatly enraged the Greek Cypriot administration.
Pointing out that Anastasiades considers Eide as responsible for the situation, Fileleftheros wrote that Anastasiades left the Summit early as a reaction and cancelled the leaders meeting scheduled for Friday 27th May.
