27 May, 2016US Vice President Joe Biden had a telephone conversation with President Mustafa Akıncı and Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades. Telephone conversations were announced from social media accounts of the leaders and Presidential spokesperson Barış Burcu noted: “The current stage of the negotiation process was evaluated during their telephone conversation.”
According to Kıbrıs Postası, US Vice President Joe Biden praised Akıncı for his sincere and decisive attitude at the negotiations and expressed his satisfaction for Akıncı’s effective decisions.
It was also stated that the decision of Anastasiades to not attend the meeting of the leaders on Friday 27th May, was discussed. Biden and Anastasiades agreed that the impulsive behaviour of Anastasiades was caused by stress as a result of the elections held in South Cyprus on 22 May 2016.
