16 June, 2016UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon: “I am ready to be personally involved.”
17 June, 2016Within the framework of the intensified Cyprus negotiations which aim to find a solution to the Cyprus problem, President Mustafa Akıncı and the Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades will meet again today at 18.30 at the buffer zone.
In his statement upon his return to the Presidency after the meeting, President Akıncı said that the active participation of both sides is important for a federally structured settlement in Cyprus, and added that decisions could not be taken by simple majority.
The Turkish Cypriot people express some of their demands due to past experiences in 1960s and 1974 coup, Akıncı said, and he emphasized that this is the reason why the Turkish Cypriot people are insisting on Turkey’s guarantee.
The next Leaders’ meeting will be held on 31 October 2016.
