6 December, 2016Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met with the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide.
According to information received from diplomatic sources, the current stage of the negotiations which aim to find a comprehensive settlement in Cyprus was discussed at the meeting.
According to a statement by a UN spokesperson, the two sides’ negotiators began to talk about the outstanding issues on the Island yesterday (5 December).
It was also mentioned that Eide’s visit to Ankara – following his meetings with Greek government representatives in Athens – was important as Çavuşoğlu could directly outline Turkey’s views on the road map and other issues.
The UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) announced that President Mustafa Akıncı and Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades will meet in Geneva, the capital of Switzerland, on 9-11 January 2017 and that an international conference with the guarantor countries will be held on 12 January 2017.
