Çavuşoğlu: “Only in Cyprus there is hope”

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said that Turkey has worked hard and sincerely to reach a solution in Cyprus. Çavuşoğlu explained that there is no chance of finding a solution to the many crises and challenges in the wider region, but that Cyprus offered hope, which may contribute to finding solutions of other problems.

Çavuşoğlu made the comments on  the Cyprus issue during a meeting with representatives of foreign countries.

He said “Unfortunately, theGreek Cypriot side has begun preparations for the elections to be held next year. The Enosis decision and Greek Cypriots attitude, which denies political equality despite the fact that they previously approved it and it was included in the joint statement, has started to disrupt the negotiations. We insisted on the convening of the five-party conference. We hope they will correct this mistake and both sides will reveal their sincerity. So we will support the process and a solution will be reached in Cyprus.”
