President Mustafa Akıncı received Thijs Van der Plas
30 March, 2017Çavuşoğlu: “Either Cyprus negotiations reach a solution or Turkey will go her own way”
30 March, 2017The Cyprus issue was discussed at a meeting of the National Security Council of Turkey.
A statement was issued following the meeting, which was held at the Presidential Palace. The statement said that the negotiations held in Geneva in order to find a solution to the Cyprus problem were halted due to the Enosis decision taken by the Greek Cypriot Parliament, to which the Turkish Cypriot side reacted, and emphasized that the resumption of the negotiations may only possible if the Greek Cypriot side accepts the necessary confidence-building measures. It also stated that a fair, comprehensive and lasting settlement based on political equality would be possible with the acceptance of an equal partnership. Therefore, the Greek Cypriot side should stop using delaying tactics and have a clear and constructive stance.
