26 December, 2018Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated that Turkey is not against drilling however the only concern is guaranteeing and the protection of the rights of the TRNC in exploring oil and gas resources.
Çavuşoğlu made a statement on the energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean at the 2018 Turkish foreign policy evaluation meeting. “We are starting to conduct exploration activities in the Exclusive Economic Zones (EEC) which are recorded at the UN. We have our Exclusive Economic Zone and also an area to which the TRNC invited us. Turkey’s exclusive economic zone overlaps with some of the parcels determined by the Greek Cypriot Administration, however the 10th parcel at which Exxon is carrying out drilling now does not overlap. We will now also start drilling in those regions” Çavuşoğlu said.
