The Council of Ministers extended the restrictions regarding the pandemic until 22 February 2021
15 February, 2021President Tatar: “Demands of Greek Cypriot Leader are unacceptable”
18 February, 2021President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Ersin Tatar made a written statement and pointed out that the initiatives towards holding the unofficial 5+UN meeting are on the agenda, however anti-solution provocations of the Greek Cypriot side are still continuing.
Noting that the statements of the Greek Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavroyannis made it clear that the equal sovereignty, which is one of the red lines of the Turkish Cypriot side, will never be accepted by the Greek Cypriot side, Tatar stressed that the Turkish Cypriot side will not give up the equal sovereignty. Tatar said ‘Mavroyannis stated that acceptance of the equal sovereignty will be a bad outcome for the country. His words make it clear that nothing has changed in their mentality.’
President Esin Tatar recorded that according to the statements of Mavroyannis the Greek Cypriot side is the only owner and master of Cyprus and Turkish Cypriots are a minority. Moreover Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades has repeated many times up to today that the Turkish Cypriots are a minority and minorities do not have equal sovereignty. This shows the malicious, racist and dominant Greek mentality’.
Tatar continued: ‘I want to express once more that Turkey’s guarantee, existence of the Turkish soldiers in Cyprus, our sovereignty and political equality are our sine qua non. Giving up these, means accepting to be dominated by the Greek Cypriots.’
Reminding that negotiation processes which have continued for years, Mont Pelerin and Crans Montana negotiations were left unsolved due to the mentality of the Greek Cypriot side, President Tatar said ‘It has been revealed that the solution model based on federation has been exhausted, and a solution model based on two sovereign equal states, living side by side, having equal rights for the benefit of Cyprus and the region, has been brought to the agenda by us. This solution model is also supported by Turkey, the most powerful and largest country in the region.’
President Tatar stated that while the solution model based on two sovereign equal states is also supported in the international arena, the Greek Cypriot side is consciously and systematically increasing the tension by making unacceptable demands and provocations.
Tatar said, ‘Our wish is the implementation of a solution model based on two separate sovereign equal states. Despite all the provocations of the Greek Cypriot side, our efforts will continue and we will not take a step back.’
