13 July, 2023TRNC President Ersin Tatar received the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (GNAT) Numan Kurtulmuş and the accompanying parliamentary delegation at the TRNC Presidential Palace.
Following the meeting President Tatar and Speaker of GNAT held at a joint press conference.
Stating that the TRNC continues to exist and survive with the support of Türkiye, Tatar drew attention that the TRNC people waged a national struggle.
Emphasising that sovereign equality is indispensable for us, President Tatar highlighted the importance of Türkiye’s role in collective defence mechanisms, as demonstrated at the NATO Summit.
The Speaker of the TGNA Numan Kurtulmuş said that his first official visit to the TRNC, which had now become a tradition for all Turkish state and government officials, demonstrated that Türkiye supported the theses of the TRNC and also expressed that Türkiye would stand by the TRNC in the following process.
Pointing out that 49 years have passed since the Cyprus Peace Operation, Kurtulmuş emphasised that from that day to this day, Türkiye has confirmed and demonstrated that it stands by the TRNC and recognition of the sovereign equality and independence of the TRNC was not only important for Turkish Cypriots but for regional stability.
Adding that although the Turkish Cypriot side and Türkiye have always been the party that always approached the negotiations positively in the negotiations, Kurtulmuş said that Southern Cyprus and Greece have been spoilt in the international arena and the Cyprus problem has been remained unsettled.
Furthermore, Kurtulmuş emphasised that Türkiye stands by the Turkish Cypriot people to defend the rights of the sovereign, independent TRNC to the end under all circumstances and conditions.
