18 December, 2023President Ersin Tatar has approved the Personal Envoy candidate proposed by the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The President delivered the notification of his approval to the UN Secretary-General on Sunday night.
According to the information issued by the TRNC Presidency, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, who has now been appointed as the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, has previously served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia and Permanent Representative to the UN amongst her other duties.
In accordance with the agreement reached with the UN Secretary-General, the Personal Envoy will be appointed for a period not exceeding 6 months with the sole mandate to explore whether common ground exists or not between the two sides in order to start new and formal negotiation process.
