5 January, 2024The foundation of the Missing Bus Monument, intended to be built in memory of the 11 martyrs, known as the “Missing Bus” martyrs, was laid with a ceremony.
State, government and local officials attended the event.
11 Turkish Cypriots, who left their homes from Larnaca by bus to work at the British Bases in Dhekelia on May 13, 1964, were forcibly removed from the bus by a group of armed Greek Cypriots, taken to an unknown place and killed. After 43 years, in 2007, as a result of the work of the Committee on Missing Persons, their remains were found massed in a well, identified and buried. However, the bus is still missing.
The monument of the “Missing Bus” will be built in the Bahçeler area on the İskele-Karpaz road.
