7 February, 2024On February 6, 2023, at 04:17, Türkiye was struck by earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6, the Disaster of the century, centered in Kahramanmaraş, which affected eleven provinces in the region and caused the deaths of 53,357 people, including 49 citizens from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
The Champion Angels, 35 Turkish Cypriot athletes and teachers, who were in Adıyaman for a volleyball competition and who were staying at İsias Hotel, also lost their lives.
The Champion Angels are being commemorated with a series of events on the first anniversary of “the disaster of the century” today.
