15 July, 2024Two Turkish Cypriot runners living in England, Okan Baysan and Halil İzzet, participated in the traditional “Saucony London 10k” and ran with the slogan “50th Year of Peace on the Island”.
According to the statement made by the TRNC London Representative Office, Baysan and İzzet stated that the Cyprus Peace Operation, which was carried out by the Türkiye on 20 July 1974 in order to save the Turkish Cypriot people who were subjected to the oppression, persecution and massacres by the Greek Cypriots and to bring peace and tranquility to the island, was a vital turning point for the Turkish Cypriot people and noted that they ran to draw attention to the ongoing half-century of peace on the island.
