President Erdoğan: “We do not recognise Southern Cyprus as a state”
22 July, 2025The Alaminyo Martyrs were remembered in a ceremony held in front of the Alaminyo Martyrs’ Monument located at Değirmenlik.
A ceremony was held at the Alaminyo Martyrs’ Monument at Değirmenlik for 20 Turkish Cypriots who were martyred during the 1974 Peace Operation while serving in the Geçitkale Company’s Alaminyo platoon.
Addressing the ceremony, President Ersin Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriot people continued to voice their sovereignty and existence as an equal people of the island.
Stating that the Greek Cypriots carried out various attacks against the Turkish Cypriot people in their attempt to annex the island to Greece, while foreign countries, including the United Kingdom, remained passive, the President noted that what saved them was the intervention of Türkiye on July 20, 1974.
Stressing the importance of a solution in Cyprus that allows people to live in peace, security, and stability, he underlined the significance of Türkiye’s guarantorship.
President Tatar concluded by saying that if Turkish Cypriots are to live peacefully and securely in the region, Türkiye’s guarantorship and the continued presence of Turkish troops were essential conditions.
