President Erhürman: ‘The necessary initiatives regarding the monument decision will be taken without delay before the European Parliament and all relevant parties”

TRNC President Tufan Erhürman emphasized that safeguarding the rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot people and passing them on to future generations constitutes his foremost responsibility. In this context, Erhürman pledged to work tirelessly to ensure that the people take pride in themselves, their country and their institutions.
Erhürman underlined that upholding the sovereignty rights of the Turkish Cypriot people on this island is both a requirement of this people’s status on the island and an obligation to the elders who fought for its existence as well as the children to whom this country will be handed over. A Greek Cypriot child on this island has the same rights as a Turkish Cypriot child.
Stating that the Turkish Cypriot people are partners in everything that exists on and around the island, Erhürman noted:
“A solution, lasting peace, and stability in this region cannot be achieved by ignoring the Turkish Cypriots on this island or the Republic of Türkiye as a guarantor state, nor by violating their rights and authorities.”
Describing relations with the Republic of Türkiye as “special to a degree that cannot be compared to relations between two separate states,” Erhürman stated that his duty would be to elevate these relations to an even higher level.
