CRUISING

There are miles and miles of stunning coastline in North Cyprus

Just 40 miles south of Turkey, North Cyprus boasts over 240 miles of coastline, much of which is sandy and uncrowded, especially the stretches along the 70km Karpaz Peninsula.

The sailing season is long as the climate is warm, with dry summers and mild winters and an average of 300 days of sunshine.

Sailing destinations from Karpaz Gate Marina include the ancient Kyrenia Harbour in the Venetian town of Girne, a bustling, atmospheric harbour just 48nm down the northern coast.

While, on the eastern coastline, the largest port of North Cyprus, Famagusta Harbour, is also within easy reach. For those preferring shorter sails, there are several spectacular anchorages dotted along the 240 miles of coastline of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus including Escape Beach, Monastery Bay and Alagadi Turtle Beach, where loggerhead and green turtles come to nest.

Within a short sail away there is the southern Turkish coastline and the harbours of Alanya, Antalya, Marmaris and Bodrum. In just under 300nm it is possible to reach Rhodes, gateway to the Greek Islands.

Karpaz Gate Marina is a member of an international marina network, Destinations, and can offer visitors privileges and discounts at other Destinations marinas in the Middle East, Mediterranean, Indian Ocean and South East Asia.

Personal Recommendations

Chris Tarmey, UK owner of 12m motor yacht Christiana

“We over wintered our motor yacht Christiana in this lovely marina on the quiet and peaceful Karpaz peninsular. We found it to be very pretty and well-appointed, with great facilities, Beach Club and restaurants and a large travel lift. The prices are very good and there are some beautiful beaches nearby to visit.”
