UBP candidate Ersin Tatar and independent candidate Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 are the two candidates who received the most votes and will compete in the second round.<\/p>\n<p>In the first round of the Presidential election, which was held last Sunday 11th October, none of the 11 candidates received the absolute majority of the valid votes, the number of voters entitled to vote increased by 72 in respect of the first round and reached 199,029.<\/p>\n<p>The voting process will start at 08:00am and will be completed at 18:00pm.<\/p>\n<p>In the election to be held on Sunday, 18th October 2020; 63,884 voters will be able to vote in 223 ballot boxes in Lefko\u015fa; 50,030 voters in 185 ballot boxes in Gazima\u011fusa; 42,933 voters in 163 ballot boxes in Girne; 15,003 voters in 54 ballot boxes in G\u00fczelyurt; 20,310 voters in 83 ballot boxes in \u0130skele and 6,869 voters in 30 ballot boxes in Lefke.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ELECTION RESULTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Supreme Committee of Elections has announced the results of the Presidential elections which were held in the TRNC on 11th October 2020. 7 independent candidates out of a total of 11 candidates ran in the Presidential elections.<\/p>\n<p>Out of 198,957 registered voters 115,966 cast their votes in the elections, which saw a 58.21% voter turnout.<\/p>\n<p>Since none of the 11 candidates received more than half of the valid votes, the second round of the election at which Ersin Tatar and Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 will compete will be held next Sunday 18th October.<\/p>\n<p>According to the order of candidates the number of votes and rates each candidate received are as follows :<\/p>\n<p>Ersin Tatar: 35,872 &#8211; 32.34%<br \/>\nTufan Erh\u00fcrman: 24,075 &#8211; 21.71%<br \/>\nErhan Ar\u0131kl\u0131: 5,999 &#8211; 5.41%<br \/>\nFuat \u00c7iner: 329 &#8211; 0.30%<br \/>\nArif Salih K\u0131rda\u011f: 282 &#8211; 0.25%<br \/>\nAhmet Boran: 84 &#8211; 0.08%<br \/>\nMustafa Ula\u015f: 69 &#8211; 0.06%<br \/>\nAlpan Uz: 155 &#8211; 0.14%<br \/>\nKudret \u00d6zersay: 6,365 &#8211; 5.74%<br \/>\nMustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131: 33,058 &#8211; 29.80%<br \/>\nSerdar Denkta\u015f: 4,627 &#8211; 4.17%<\/p>\n<p>The referendum to change the Constitution in order to increase the number of Supreme Court judges has been refused by 49.87% \u2018Yes\u2019 and 50,13% \u2018No\u2019 votes.<\/p>\n<p>PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS 2020<\/p>\n<p>The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will hold presidential elections on October 11, 2020. Turkish Cypriots will go to the polls to elect a president for the next 5 years and for the referendum to increase the number of Supreme Court Judges. The propaganda period started on September 15, 2020 and will end on October 10, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>7 independent candidates out of a total of 11 candidates will run in the presidential elections.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Order of the candidates on the ballots designated by a lot in the presence of the Supreme Committee of Elections:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Ersin Tatar (National Unity Party)<\/p>\n<p>2. Tufan Erh\u00fcrman (Republican Turkish Party)<\/p>\n<p>3. Erhan Ar\u0131kl\u0131 (Rebirth Party)<\/p>\n<p>4. Fuat \u00c7iner (Nationalist Democracy Party)<\/p>\n<p>5. Arif Salih K\u0131rda\u011f (Independent)<\/p>\n<p>6. Ahmet Boran (Independent)<\/p>\n<p>7. Mustafa Ula\u015f (Independent)<\/p>\n<p>8. Alpan Uz (Independent)<\/p>\n<p>9. Kudret \u00d6zersay (Independent)<\/p>\n<p>10. Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 (Independent)<\/p>\n<p>11. Serdar Denkta\u015f (Independent)<\/p>\n<p>According to the 99th Article of the TRNC Constitution, in order to be elected as the President a candidate must receive more than half of the valid votes. If no candidate receives the absolute majority of the votes, the election will be repeated on October 18, 2020 between the two candidates who received the highest number of votes and the candidate who then receives the most votes will be elected as the next TRNC President.<br \/>\nPresidential elections will be held for the 10th time since 1974. The Turkish Cypriot people, who held their first presidential election under the ceiling of their own State on June 20, 1976, held the elections for the presidency of the Turkish Federated State of Cyprus twice and for the Presidency of the TRNC seven times in the past 44 years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recent (2015) Presidential Elections:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Total number of voters: 176,916<br \/>\nNumber of the votes cast: 110,303<br \/>\nVoter turnout: 62.35%<\/p>\n<p>In the presidential elections held on 19 April 2015, Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 and Dervi\u015f Ero\u011flu were the candidates for the second round.<\/p>\n<p>In the second round of elections held on April 26, 2015, Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131, who received 60.5% (67,032) of the votes was elected as the President, ahead of Dervi\u015f Ero\u011flu, who received 39.5% (43,763) of the votes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Presidential elections since 1976<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1976 Rauf Raif Denkta\u015f (The Turkish Federated State of Cyprus)<br \/>\n1981 Rauf Raif Denkta\u015f (The Turkish Federated State of Cyprus)<\/p>\n<p>Following the proclamation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on 15 November 1983, the Constitution of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was submitted to the referendum and was adopted on May 5, 1985.<\/p>\n<p>The first presidential election of the TRNC was held on June 9, 1985.
