President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 and Greek Cypriot Leader Nicos Anastasiades are expected to attend a bi-communal concert which named \u201cour music under the moonlight\u201d at the recently renovated Othello Tower in Famagusta tonight\u00a0as part of the confidence building measures.\u00a0According to news on Cyprus Mail published in the South Cyprus,Anastasiades\u2019s attending an event in north\u00a0has drawn fire from political arena in south.<\/p>\n
House President in South Cyprus Yiannakis Omirou was one of those criticized Anastasiades. Omirou\u00a0said \u201cit would send the wrong impression that the holder of the highest office in the land would attend an event under the conditions of military occupation\u201d. Although he appreciates the contact with the Turkish Cypriots on all levels was required as part of the negotiations process, the presence of \u201cthe official Cypriot state in events in the occupied north is another thing\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Greens also criticized Anastasiades. \u201cInstead of Ak\u0131nc\u0131 handing over the keys of the town to Anastasiades as per the resolutions of the UN Ak\u0131nc\u0131 invites him as a host at the Othello Tower,\u201d the Greens said.<\/p>\n
On the other hand The Citizens\u2019 Alliance asked Anastasiades whether he would remove the \u2018Republic\u2019s\u2019 flag from his car during his visit in the north.<\/p>\n
They argue that even though they believe that confidence building measures can cultivate a positive climate, the solution of the Cyprus problem will not depend on such actions.\u00a0 \u201cThe president\u2019s visits in the north basically contribute to the upgrading of the breakaway regime,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
