{"id":138791,"date":"2015-08-07T09:49:48","date_gmt":"2015-08-07T06:49:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/sozen-another-year-needed-for-technical-works\/"},"modified":"2015-08-07T09:49:48","modified_gmt":"2015-08-07T06:49:48","slug":"sozen-another-year-needed-for-technical-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/en\/sozen-another-year-needed-for-technical-works\/","title":{"rendered":"S\u00f6zen: &#8220;Another year needed for technical works&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">International Relations expert Prof. Dr Ahmet S\u00f6zen, who made some evaluations for the Turkish Cypriot daily K\u0131br\u0131s Postas\u0131, said that good progress has been made in the Cyprus negotiations.\u00a0 <\/span><u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Stating that more work needs to be done on a technical level, S\u00f6zen said that at least one more year is needed for reaching a possible settlement. S\u00f6zen stated that a new constitution and legislation needs to be prepared for the federal state to be established in case of a settlement. Stating that it important, how prepared the both communities on the road to a settlement, S\u00f6zen said that a new range of Confidence Building Measures has to be introduced and the co-operation between the two communities needs to be encouraged. S\u00f6zen said: &#8220;The people should see that a mutual co-operation is possible. They need to be prepared for a settlement. If there will be a federation, the co-operation between the two communities needs to be encouraged until the referendum&#8221;.<\/span><u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Stating that reaching a compromise on the property issue at the negotiation table would be the most important technical step, S\u00f6zen said that properties have to be categorized as restitution, exchange and compensation. He also said: &#8220;Leaders are at the beginning of the road on the property issue. They have not discussed yet what would be returned, exchanged or compensated. Who would have the last word?\u00a0 The original owner or the current owner?
