Stating that the current situation is different from the previous ones and both leaders are avoiding to accuse each other and trying to take the same path, President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 said that he would do his best in order not to lose his faith in a solution.<\/p>\n
In an interview with the Turkish Cypriot daily newspaper Havadis and the Greek Cypriot daily newspaper Phileleftheros and Cyprus Weekly, Ak\u0131nc\u0131 stated that the rotating presidency is a part of political equality. Ak\u0131nc\u0131 also mentioned that some Greek Cypriot political parties which want to keep the Republic of Cyprus alive, forgot that in that Republic there is a Deputy President who has the authority to veto.<\/p>\n
President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 also pointed out the importance of the continuation of Turkey\u2019s guarantorship for the Turkish Cypriots. On the other hand, Ak\u0131nc\u0131 said: \u201cWe want the continuation of Turkey\u2019s guarantorship because firstly; we want to feel safe in a new formation. Secondly, we want to guarantee our status.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pointing out that the security of the Turkish Cypriots shouldn\u2019t be perceived as a threat by the Greek Cypriots, Ak\u0131nc\u0131 indicated that they will negotiate with the guarantors and evaluate the new situation when all the topics have been completed.<\/p>\n
Touching upon the issue of the closed city of Mara\u015f, Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 expressed his observation that the Greek Cypriot side is not yet ready for the opening of the closed city of Mara\u015f simultaneous with Ercan and Famagusta ports.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
