{"id":140129,"date":"2016-08-19T12:30:13","date_gmt":"2016-08-19T09:30:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/akinci-if-it-is-possible-to-provide-the-basis-for-multi-lateral-meetings-at-the-upcoming-seven-meetings-september-can-mark-the-beginning-of-a-new-period\/"},"modified":"2016-08-19T12:30:13","modified_gmt":"2016-08-19T09:30:13","slug":"akinci-if-it-is-possible-to-provide-the-basis-for-multi-lateral-meetings-at-the-upcoming-seven-meetings-september-can-mark-the-beginning-of-a-new-period","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/en\/akinci-if-it-is-possible-to-provide-the-basis-for-multi-lateral-meetings-at-the-upcoming-seven-meetings-september-can-mark-the-beginning-of-a-new-period\/","title":{"rendered":"Ak\u0131nc\u0131: \u201cIf it is possible to provide the basis for multi-lateral meetings at the upcoming seven meetings, September can mark the beginning of a new period\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131, , returned to the island after holding meetings in Ankara.<\/p>\n<p>Ak\u0131nc\u0131 stated that the seven scheduled meetings in August and September may well be the beginning of a new period within the framework of the negotiation process.<\/p>\n<p>Ak\u0131nc\u0131 advised though that if we cannot get a result in 2016 reaching a solution afterwards may be impossible.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at Ercan Airport before leaving for Ankara Ak\u0131nc\u0131 said \u201cOur aim is to reach a solution in Cyprus and \u00a0\u00a0Turkey shares the same goal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked if there is a Plan B if a settlement cannot be reached in 2016 Ak\u0131nc\u0131 said that it is necessary to move the TRNC\u2019s economy and democracy forward while trying to solve the Cyprus issue.<\/p>\n<p>It is undoubtedly very important to show the necessary political understanding and flexibility en route \u00a0to the solution. In parallel to this, both \u00a0sides should see each other as future partners and show that they are ready to live side by side and respect each other\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n<p>Ak\u0131nc\u0131 criticized Greek Cypriot statements that they will not accept any Cyprus settlement that does not include the return of G\u00fczelyurt, or that includes Turkish guarantees.<\/p>\n<p>President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 participated in a \u00a0live CNN Turk broadcast after completing his official programme in Ankara.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to a question regarding Turkey\u2019s guarantee, President Ak\u0131nc\u0131 said, \u201cIf the Greek Cypriots do not behave improperly towards the Turkish Cypriots, there will \u00a0not be a response from Turkey against the Greek Cypriots.\u201d Ak\u0131nc\u0131 said that they want Turkey to take a role to ensure Turkish Cypriots\u2019 security in order to prevent unwelcome behaviour.
