President Ak\u0131nc\u0131 has stated that any settlement in Cyprus must be supported by the international community.<\/p>\n
The President was speaking in a press conference in New York after holding separate meetings with the German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier and US Vice President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n
Yesterday, President Ak\u0131nc\u0131 met with Steinmeier. During the meeting, both Ak\u0131nc\u0131 and Steinmeier discussed their views on the latest developments in the Cyprus talks, as well as the financial aspects of the settlement.<\/p>\n
As a member of the EU, Germany is very interested in what is happening in Cyprus.<\/p>\n
President Ak\u0131nc\u0131 also held a \u201ccomprehensive and constructive\u201d meeting with Biden.<\/p>\n
Speaking after the meeting, the President noted that \u201cthe USA continues to have a keen interest in the Cyprus talks, and is aware of the Turkish Cypriots\u2019 positive contribution to the process.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe USA, like us, is aware of the importance of reaching a settlement before the end of 2016.\u201d<\/p>\n
In 2017, an election will be held in the United States, and a new UN Secretary General will be appointed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope these meetings in New York will benefit the forthcoming negotiations and our meetings with the UN Secretary General\u201d Ak\u0131nc\u0131 stated.<\/p>\n
President Ak\u0131nc\u0131 is due to meet with the Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in a tripartite summit on the 25 September.<\/p>\n
Ak\u0131nc\u0131 also noted that, in a statement by Anastasiades to the UNGA yesterday, Anastasiades made some positive points but also misrepresented other aspects of the Cyprus issue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
