{"id":140234,"date":"2016-10-11T10:54:42","date_gmt":"2016-10-11T07:54:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/akinci-speaks-at-the-23rd-world-energy-congress\/"},"modified":"2016-10-11T10:54:42","modified_gmt":"2016-10-11T07:54:42","slug":"akinci-speaks-at-the-23rd-world-energy-congress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/en\/akinci-speaks-at-the-23rd-world-energy-congress\/","title":{"rendered":"Ak\u0131nc\u0131 speaks at the 23rd World Energy Congress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 gave a speech at the 23<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0World Energy Congress in \u0130stanbul, the most important global organization of the World Energy Council.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Venezuela President Nicolas Madura and President of Azerbaijan \u0130lhan Aliyev attended the opening of the Congress, which was hosted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan, under the theme, \u201cEmbracing New Frontiers\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Highlighting the intensified negotiation process which has been ongoing for 16 months, President Ak\u0131nc\u0131 said, \u201cIf the Greek Cypriot side also displays a logical and realistic understanding, then a bi-zonal federation will soon be possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ak\u0131nc\u0131 pointed out that the main theme of the 23<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0World Energy Congress is \u201cShare for peace\u201d, and stressed that this could be achieved in the Eastern Mediterranean if Cyprus also takes an active role.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ak\u0131nc\u0131 said, \u201cShould we reach a solution to the Cyprus Problem, a United Federated Cyprus will be able to contribute to matters of international energy security and energy access\u201d. He said the natural gas discovered in the region \u201ccan reach Europe in the most economic and safe way through an energy corridor that will be constructed in Cyprus via Turkey.\u201d Ak\u0131nc\u0131 added that this would not only benefit Greek and Turkish Cypriots, but would allow countries like Turkey, Greece, Israel and Egypt, which play an important role in the region, to redefine their relations in the spirit of peace and cooperation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President Ak\u0131nc\u0131 said that the settlement in Cyprus would be a huge opportunity for the larger geographical region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ak\u0131nc\u0131 explained that that an energy deal to construct an undersea electricity cable link between the Middle East and Europe via Turkey is on the agenda, as well as natural gas. He said: \u201cRather than implementing a subsea power cable project between Israel, South Cyprus, Crete and Greece, the project between Israel, Cyprus and Turkey will be faster, cheaper and shorter.
