{"id":140361,"date":"2016-12-09T12:04:30","date_gmt":"2016-12-09T09:04:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/akinci-political-parties-in-the-parliament-can-participate-in-geneva-meeting\/"},"modified":"2016-12-09T12:04:30","modified_gmt":"2016-12-09T09:04:30","slug":"akinci-political-parties-in-the-parliament-can-participate-in-geneva-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/en\/akinci-political-parties-in-the-parliament-can-participate-in-geneva-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"Ak\u0131nc\u0131: \u201cPolitical parties in the Parliament can participate in Geneva \u00a0meeting\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 has stated that he would welcome the participation of political parties represented in \u00a0Parliament at the five-party conference, which is due to start on 12 January in Geneva.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 has returned to the island following his two-day Brussels visit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During his Brussels trip, President Ak\u0131nc\u0131 met with the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland, and the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Stating that he had received positive feedback in Brussels and that the interest in the Cyprus issue \u00a0was also pleasing, Ak\u0131nc\u0131 added, \u00a0\u201cI think this is a reflection of the determination and commitment \u00a0of the Turkish Cypriot people in this process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Noting that the Turkish Cypriot side&#8217;s readiness for the EU is one of the key points of the talks, Ak\u0131nc\u0131 said that the institutions in the north should be prepared for European accession and that works should be accelerated in this framework.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, Ak\u0131nc\u0131 also highlighted that the \u00a0Greek Cypriot side has been a member of the EU for the last twelve years and received significant contributions during this period, and stated that more will need to be done to support the Turkish Cypriot side and address this economic disparity According to President Ak\u0131nc\u0131, \u00a0the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker reaffirmed his promise that to provide financial support for the settlement in Cyprus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Stating that the EU also wants to attend the five-party conference in Geneva on 12 January, Ak\u0131nc\u0131 reminded that the European Commissioner for Enlargement Verheugen took part in Burgenstock in 2004 on behalf of the EU;
