{"id":140373,"date":"2016-12-16T11:53:57","date_gmt":"2016-12-16T08:53:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/ozgurgun-we-will-not-support-a-settlement-in-which-guzelyurt-will-be-given-away\/"},"modified":"2016-12-16T11:53:57","modified_gmt":"2016-12-16T08:53:57","slug":"ozgurgun-we-will-not-support-a-settlement-in-which-guzelyurt-will-be-given-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/en\/ozgurgun-we-will-not-support-a-settlement-in-which-guzelyurt-will-be-given-away\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00d6zg\u00fcrg\u00fcn: \u201cWe will not support a settlement in which G\u00fczelyurt will be given away\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prime Minister H\u00fcseyin \u00d6zg\u00fcrg\u00fcn has stated that the town of G\u00fczelyurt, in north-west Cyprus, \u201ccan never be given away\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prime Minister \u00d6zg\u00fcrg\u00fcn said that the Greek Cypriots got everything they wanted on the agenda for the upcoming negotiations in Geneva between 9 \u2013 12 January.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prime Minister \u00d6zg\u00fcrg\u00fcn said, \u201cUnfortunately, the Greek Cypriots got everything they wanted, whether it was on the issue of governance and power sharing or the economy. If we were to talk about the discussions on the economy chapter there will be nothing left of either the TRNC\u2019s economy or the Turkish Cypriot people in 10 years. All these issues have not yet been concluded. They are still incomplete issues. These issues are only waiting to be finalized because of the agreed principle that nothing will be agreed until everything is agreed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is important to be clear to prevent confusion and misunderstanding, the Prime Minister noted. \u201cIf we speak frankly, you will see that the Greek Cypriots got everything they wanted. The only thing that the Greek Cypriots have not succeeded in is the withdrawal of Turkish troops from the island. I know what\u2019s going to happen at the five-party conference. They\u2019re going to try and pressure Turkey into taking steps on the issue of guarantees, insisting that everything else is agreed to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHowever Turkey will not fall into such a trap\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00d6zg\u00fcrg\u00fcn also stated that the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan\u2019s participation in the five-party conference is very important and indicates the importance that Turkey has attached to a solution in Cyprus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00d6zg\u00fcrg\u00fcn indicated that he doesn\u2019t believe that Turkey would approve a settlement that would give G\u00fczelyurt away as a territorial concession.
