President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 has said that other countries in the region, as well as the TRNC, will benefit from a solution in Cyprus.<\/p>\n
Ak\u0131nc\u0131 stressed that friendship between Turkey and the whole island would be positive for the Greek Cypriots as well as Turkish Cypriots, even if only the benefits to tourism were taken into account.<\/p>\n
Ak\u0131nc\u0131 warned that new tensions could arise in the region over Eastern Mediterranean energy resources in the case of a non-solution. However, he said that if a solution is reached, the region will benefit from new areas of cooperation for all. Ak\u0131nc\u0131 said that approval of the Greek Cypriot far right group, ELAM\u2019s decision to commemorate the Enosis Plebiscite in schools was not appropriate in the context of the on-going negotiation process, and that it has made the TRNC feel uneasy.<\/p>\n
Additionally, President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 also received the US Ambassador to Lefko\u015fa, Kathleen Doherty. The President\u2019s Special Adviser on Political Affairs and History, Dr. Meltem Onurkan Samani was present at the meeting.
