President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 stated that he will outline to Anastasiades the steps that he would like to see being taken as confidence-building measures during the social dinner to be held between the two leaders on Sunday 2nd of April and that they would plan the road map for the next stage of talks.<\/p>\n
Indicating that planning should be done after the official negotiation process potentially restarts after 7th of April, Ak\u0131nc\u0131 stressed that the UN would have more to do in the following days, diplomacy between the two sides should be increased, and that this is the fastest way to evaluate the process.<\/p>\n
President Ak\u0131nc\u0131 also noted that April and May are key months to make a decision.<\/p>\n
President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131 also received the Acting Director General for Defence and Intelligence at the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office Jonathan Allen earlier this week. Following the reception, Ak\u0131nc\u0131 made a statement to the press and responded to questions.<\/p>\n
Stating that lack of confidence between the two societies is damaging to morale on both sides of the island, Ak\u0131nc\u0131 therefore called for the decisions agreed during the last two years in relation to confidence-building to be put into practice at the earliest opportunity on the island. Ak\u0131nc\u0131 said that he will convey this request to Anastasiades at the dinner.<\/p>\n
President Ak\u0131nc\u0131 emphasized that they should show their communities that differences have been overcome in relation to key areas such as mobile communication, interconnection of electricity and firefighting between the two sides, although these have not yet been implemented, and common steps can be taken in order to develop a peaceful culture on the island.<\/p>\n
President Ak\u0131nc\u0131 stated that Acting Director General Allen, represented the British Foreign Secretary at the technical meetings that took place in Mont Pelerine on security and guarantees and added that the visit was handled within this framework.<\/p>\n
Ak\u0131nc\u0131 also noted that he conveyed the views of the Turkish Cypriot side regarding the negotiation process and its good intentions to Acting Director General Allen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
