Turkish Cypriot Negotiator \u00d6zdil Nami has stated that all issues will be discussed comprehensively with the aim of reaching a conclusion to the Cyprus Conference in Geneva.<\/p>\n
Negotiator Nami was speaking to a TAK reporter regarding the Cyprus negotiations, the leaders\u2019 meeting in New York, and the Conference on Cyprus, which is expected to be held in the second half of June in Geneva. Responding to a question, Nami stated that it is possible to say that the final stage of the negotiations has been reached.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is a process, a method, which has been ongoing in Cyprus for a long time. The joint evaluation of the two leaders at the 17 May meeting was that outstanding issues should be negotiated with a different method in a different format, – one that brings forward a comprehensive plan for a solution\u201d, said Nami<\/p>\n
Stating that the UN also agree with this decision and they support the reconvening of the Cyprus conference, Nami said, \u201cFor this reason it is possible to say that we have reached the final phase. This is our joint evaluation with our interlocutor.\u201d<\/p>\n
Responding to a question on whether there is a give and take process, \u00d6zdil Nami said that the Cyprus conference should be considered as a forum for the discussion of all issues.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring this conference, there will be five-party meetings with the participation of the guarantor countries, and also bilateral meetings. The agenda of the five party meetings will be Security and Guarantees. The other issues will be negotiated by the two sides. Therefore it will be possible to approach all issues comprehensively to reach a conclusion under the umbrella of the conference.\u201d<\/p>\n
Indicating that the key topic on the agenda for the five party conference at which guarantor countries will be present, will be Security and Guarantees, Nami said that only two meetings have been held on this issue so far, therefore the issue is expected to be discussed in depth.<\/p>\n
Nami noted that the issues will not be taken up in any particular order, as was clearly determined and registered at the Leaders\u2019 meeting held with the UN Secretary General.
