{"id":141118,"date":"2017-12-29T15:14:57","date_gmt":"2017-12-29T12:14:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/four-martyrs-laid-to-rest-following-military-ceremony-at-murataga-sandallar-martyrdom\/"},"modified":"2017-12-29T15:14:57","modified_gmt":"2017-12-29T12:14:57","slug":"four-martyrs-laid-to-rest-following-military-ceremony-at-murataga-sandallar-martyrdom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/en\/four-martyrs-laid-to-rest-following-military-ceremony-at-murataga-sandallar-martyrdom\/","title":{"rendered":"Four Martyrs laid to rest\u00a0following military ceremony at Murata\u011fa-Sandallar Martyrdom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Four Martyrs, who died as a result of the Greek and Greek Cypriot massacre at Murata\u011fa, Atl\u0131lar, and Sandallar villages, and whose remains were recently identified in a mass grave, were laid to rest with a military ceremony held at Murata\u011fa Sandallar Martyrdom yesterday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Martyrs Dervi\u015f Sad\u0131k \u00d6zkuyucu (1910-1974), Havva Saf\u0131k \u00d6zkuyucu (1919-1974), Fatma Mehmet Tavukcu (1958-1974) and Halil H\u00fcseyin Karabardak (1909-1974) were identified as a result of the DNA works that were carried out by the Committee on Missing Persons. The Martyrs were buried at Murata\u011fa-Sandallar Martyrdom with a military ceremony, following the funeral prayer at the Murata\u011fa Mosque.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ceremony was attended by President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In his speech at the ceremony, the Head of\u00a0Murata\u011fa, Sandallar and Atl\u0131lar Martyrs Memorial Association, Ahmet A\u015f\u0131r,\u00a0recalled that these villages were not defended by soldiers during the years of the struggle, but instead by the men of the villages, who took up shotguns to defend their homes and families.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Greek Cypriot military forces rounded up these men on the morning of 20 July 1974 and imprisoned them in prison camps, leaving the women and children in those villages defenceless until 14 August. A\u015f\u0131r then described how the Greek and Greek Cypriots forces brutally murdered these remaining children and women on the morning of 14 August and buried them in a mass grave.
