The late leader of the Turkish Cypriot people\u2019s struggle for existence and freedom, Dr. Faz\u0131l K\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck, will be commemorated today, on the 34th anniversary of his death.<\/p>\n
The first ceremony will be held at Dr. K\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck\u2019s mausoleum at An\u0131ttepe, where wreaths will be laid by President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131. A minute\u2019s silence will be observed, and flags will be lowered to half-mast with the reciting of the national anthem. This will be followed by the signing of the special book of commemoration. The ceremony will end with a speech by President Mustafa Ak\u0131nc\u0131.<\/p>\n
Today the Dr. Faz\u0131l K\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck Memorial Program will\u00a0also take place at the Atat\u00fcrk Cultural Centre.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister H\u00fcseyin \u00d6zg\u00fcrg\u00fcn delivered a speech, paying tribute to K\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck\u2019s leadership of Turkish Cypriot society at a time when Turkish Cypriots were facing daily oppression and their very existence on the island of Cyprus was threatened with annihilation.<\/p>\n
\u00d6zg\u00fcrg\u00fcn described how Dr. K\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck took on the duty of leadership with patriotism, courage, and determination, with great personal sacrifice. \u00d6zg\u00fcrg\u00fcn stated that Dr. K\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck\u2019s efforts in his struggle for the Turkish Cypriots national cause without the expectation of anything in return should be remembered with great pride.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister concluded in his speech that, \u201cDr. K\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck, who struggled with the burden and the difficulties of those times, has been a source of morality and strength to his people. K\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck was welcomed with great respect and affection by all sections of society. He was always modest, helpful, and full of benevolence and humanity. He has been a source of strength, confidence, and resistance for the Turkish Cypriot people. He served the Turkish Cypriot people well, and fought for the national struggle fearlessly\u201d.<\/p>\n
