{"id":142596,"date":"2021-03-22T13:24:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-22T10:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/president-tatar-visited-erenkoy-to-commemorate-martyrs\/"},"modified":"2021-03-22T13:24:00","modified_gmt":"2021-03-22T10:24:00","slug":"president-tatar-visited-erenkoy-to-commemorate-martyrs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/en\/president-tatar-visited-erenkoy-to-commemorate-martyrs\/","title":{"rendered":"President Tatar visited Erenk\u00f6y to commemorate martyrs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">President Ersin Tatar visited Erenk\u00f6y yesterday (21 March 2021) to commemorate Erenk\u00f6y martyrs and 1,571 young plants were planted which represents the date of the conquest of Cyprus by the Ottoman Empire in 1571.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Arriving at Erenk\u00f6y by sea, President Tatar visited the Erenk\u00f6y Martyrdom and signed the martyrdom special book. Giving a speech at the Martyrdom, Tatar said that Turkish Cypriot people struggled for existence in Erenk\u00f6y and the Erenk\u00f6y resistance has the same importance as the \u00c7anakkale War where Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk and fellow fighters struggled for existence. Stressing that many Turkish Cypriot students around the world and also from Anatolia interrupted their education and fought heroically in Erenk\u00f6y, Tatar underlined that the Erenk\u00f6y martyrs contributed support to the cause for the rights of the Turkish Cypriots.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Furthermore, stressing that thanks to the Erenk\u00f6y resistance, a message was given to the world that there are two peoples in Cyprus who have the right to speak, Tatar pointed out that Turkey used its right of guarantee in 1974 to put into effect the Peace Operation, so today, the Turkish Cypriot people continue to live in these territories under their sovereignty with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
