{"id":142672,"date":"2021-04-29T14:00:54","date_gmt":"2021-04-29T11:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/unsg-guterres-no-common-ground-at-geneva\/"},"modified":"2021-04-29T14:00:54","modified_gmt":"2021-04-29T11:00:54","slug":"unsg-guterres-no-common-ground-at-geneva","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pio.mfa.gov.ct.tr\/en\/unsg-guterres-no-common-ground-at-geneva\/","title":{"rendered":"UNSG Guterres: \u201cNo common ground at Geneva\u201d\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The informal five-party summit aimed at finding common ground for the way forward on the Cyprus problem ended on Thursday morning in Geneva without any success.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced at a press conference that it was not possible to find enough common ground for the resumption of formal negotiations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u201cThis was not an easy meeting,\u201d Guterres said after the plenary session where he heard the parties\u2019 final positions. \u201cBut I do not give up,\u201d he said, adding that the effort will continue with our consultations to create the best possible conditions for the next meeting, which could happen in the next two to three months. \u201cWe have been able to agree, in the near future, for another 5+1 meeting \u2013 again with the objective to move in the direction of reaching common ground. We are determined to do everything we can, to move on\u201d he said.
