Fahri\u00a0Onba\u015f\u0131, the son of the martyr Turkish Cypriot Turgut Fahri, who was murdered by the terrorist organization EOKA in Cyprus in 1963, brought the legal struggle he\u00a0launched\u00a0in the Greek Cypriot\u00a0side\u00a0to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).<\/span><\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

Fahri\u00a0Onba\u015f\u0131\u00a0spoke to Anadolu Agency (AA) at his father’s home in\u00a0Lefko\u015fa, where he was taken by EOKA members in 1963.<\/span><\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

Onba\u015f\u0131\u00a0talked about the identification of his murdered father from his bones by DNA test, the\u00a0resort\u00a0of the matter to the jurisdiction\u00a0and the process\u00a0in\u00a0the ECHR, and shared the documents of the massacre with AA.<\/span><\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

Stating that his father was executed with a bullet to\u00a0his\u00a0head in water well with 4 Turkish Cypriots in the Strovolo region of the Greek Cypriot part of Cyprus,\u00a0Onba\u015f\u0131\u00a0said that the Missing Persons Committee informed them in 2013 about the event so the Greek Cypriot police reached out to them via the\u00a0daily K\u0131br\u0131s\u00a0Newspaper.<\/span><\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

Stating that they gave a 6-page report to the Greek Cypriot police on the subject and that the process started after that,\u00a0Onba\u015f\u0131\u00a0said, “We wanted to file a case with the Greek Cypriot side regarding this process. Unfortunately, domestic law is never\u00a0practiced\u00a0for the Turks in the Greek Cypriot side. In this process, many obstacles were brought to me in the Greek\u00a0Cypriot side.\u00a0There were problems that this process would not work. This report, which was found in the Strovolo police in 2014, came to us in the form of a report on February 8, 2022, by the Greek Cypriot Chief Prosecutor’s Office.<\/span><\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

Pointing out that Strasbourg allows the Turkish Cypriots to apply if there is a report of such an incident,\u00a0Onba\u015f\u0131\u00a0said that this application should be made to the ECHR, however, within 4 months after the report was created. He stated that they forwarded the file to Strasbourg through lawyers.<\/span><\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n
