The Stratcom Public Forum, organized by the Directorate of Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of T\u00fcrkiye was held under the theme \u201cA Fairer World is Possible\u201d in Lefko\u015fa yesterday at the Concorde Hotel.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the opening of the session, T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s Ambassador to Lefko\u015fa, Ali Murat Ba\u015f\u00e7eri, emphasized the importance of addressing global governance issues that concern the entire world.<\/p>\n
Ba\u015f\u00e7eri criticized the UN Peacekeeping Force (UNFICYP) for extending its mandate without the consent of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), and emphasized that the only viable solution is a two-state model.<\/p>\n
In his speech during the panel, Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertu\u011frulo\u011flu criticized the United Nations (UN), stating that it does not solve problems but rather perpetuates them. Addressing the Geneva Cyprus talks, Ertu\u011frulo\u011flu noted that the UN Secretary-General, while personally sincere, remains bound by Security Council decisions.<\/p>\n
Stating that the report presented by the UN\u2019s personal envoy, Mar\u00eda \u00c1ngela Holgu\u00edn, confirmed the absence of common ground between the two sides, Minister Ertu\u011frulo\u011flu dismissed the idea that meaningful negotiations were underway, arguing that Greek Cypriot leadership refuses to discuss sovereignty with the TRNC.<\/p>\n
Ertu\u011frulo\u011flu criticized efforts to frame new talks as a significant diplomatic process, stating that such meetings could have been held in Lefko\u015fa rather than Geneva.<\/p>\n
He concluded that the UN Security Council is deliberately stalling the TRNC, and unless the root cause of the Cyprus problem\u2014the Greek Cypriot side\u2019s illegitimate claim to the Republic of Cyprus\u2014is addressed, no real solution can be achieved.<\/p>\n
