According to official results, Republican Turkish Party (CTP) candidate Tufan Erh\u00fcrman has been elected as the new President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).<\/p>\n
Tufan Erh\u00fcrman was born in Lefko\u015fa in 1970.<\/p>\n
He graduated from the Turkish Maarif College in 1988 and from the Faculty of Law at Ankara University in 1992.<\/p>\n
Between 1995 and 2001, he worked as a research assistant in the Department of Administrative Law at Ankara University Faculty of Law. During this period, he also lectured on Introduction to Law, Administrative Law, and Constitutional Law at Hacettepe University and Middle East Technical University (METU).<\/p>\n
From 1999 to 2004, Erh\u00fcrman served as a member of the Draft Preparation Commissions established by the Turkish Ministry of Justice for the Ombudsman Law Proposal. He earned his PhD in 2001 with his dissertation titled \u201cNon-Judicial Supervision of the Administration and the Ombudsman.\u201d<\/p>\n
Between 2001 and 2006, he was a faculty member at the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Law.<\/p>\n
After serving at the Near East University (NEU) Faculty of Law from 2006 to 2008, he returned to EMU. He served as Vice Dean of the EMU Faculty of Law between 2002\u20132006 and 2010\u20132013.<\/p>\n
Between 2008 and 2010, he was a member of the negotiation team of the 2nd President Mehmet Ali Talat.<\/p>\n
Erh\u00fcrman was elected as a Member of Parliament for Lefko\u015fa in the 2013 general elections and became an Associate Professor of Law in 2014.<\/p>\n
He served as Secretary-General of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) from 2015 to 2016 and was elected as the Party Leader at the 26th Ordinary Congress in 2016 a position he held for nine years.<\/p>\n
Following the early general elections on January 7, 2018, he served as Prime Minister in the four-party coalition government.<\/p>\n
