Representing the Republic’s Assembly of the TRNC at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg, Members of Parliament Hasan Ta\u00e7oy and Arma\u011fan Candan met with Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, the delegation briefed Secretary General Berset on the UN-led initiative aimed at advancing efforts toward a settlement of the Cyprus issue. They also outlined the Turkish Cypriot side’s priorities and commitment to contributing constructively to the ongoing process.<\/p>\n
Discussions also covered the Council of Europe’s recent decision on the property issue. The delegation emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot side has fulfilled its legal obligations regarding the execution of European Court of Human Rights judgments and reiterated that the Immovable Property Commission continues to serve as an effective domestic remedy. They further expressed concern that the issue remains on the Committee of Ministers’ agenda due to political considerations.<\/p>\n
The delegation underlined the importance of strengthening Turkish Cypriot representation within PACE and agreed with Secretary General Berset on the value of enhancing dialogue and consultations between the Council of Europe and the Turkish Cypriot side.<\/p>\n
As part of their programme in Strasbourg, Ta\u00e7oy and Candan also met with PACE Secretary General Despina Chatzivassiliou. Their discussions focused on recent developments concerning the Cyprus issue, regional developments, human rights issues affecting Turkish Cypriots, and ways to enhance the participation of Turkish Cypriots in the Council of Europe’s work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
