21-25 December National Struggle and Martyrs Week due to be commemorated

The martyrs who lost their lives in the struggle for existence are being commemorated with a number of ceremonies to mark the 21-25 December Struggle and Martyrs Week.

The first ceremony to mark the occasion was held in front of Lefkoşa Martyrs Monument.

President Mustafa Akıncı signed the official memorial book at the ceremony and said, “We commemorate you once more on the 53^rd Anniversary of 21 December 1963. You sacrificed your life for your community’s chance to live in peace and freedom. If we look at the future with confidence at these territories, this is thanks to your great self-sacrifice. We do not want to experience the same events of 21 December 1963 ever again. We do not desire new martyrs, new missing persons on this island anymore. We want to establish a good future for the new generations to live in peace, equality, security and prosperity. Such a future will be established on the ground created by your sacrifices. We commemorate you once more with respect.”
