Statement of President Ersin Tatar
2 September, 2025The 103rd anniversary of 30 August Victory Day was commemorated with a ceremony held on Dr Fazıl Küçük Boulevard in Lefkoşa.
The event was attended by President Ersin Tatar, Speaker of the TRNC Assembly Ziya Öztürkler, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, President of the Supreme Court Bertan Özerdağ, Second President Mehmet Ali Talat, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri, Commander of the Turkish Peace Forces in Cyprus Lieutenant General Sebahattin Kılınç, Commander of the Security Forces Major General İlker Görgülü, Leader of the main opposition CTP Tufan Erhürman, as well as ministers, civilian and military officials, and representatives of various institutions, organizations, and associations.
In his address during the parade, President Ersin Tatar emphasised that each year on this sacred day, the Turkish nation recalls with gratitude the epic struggle that secured independence and freedom at the cost of great sacrifice. He underlined that 30 August is “far more than a military triumph; it is the embodiment of national will, the strength of unity and solidarity, and the eternal yearning for freedom”.
President Tatar added that under the visionary leadership of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Turkish nation, despite deprivation and hardship, defeated the forces of occupation — securing not only independence but heralding the birth of the Republic of Türkiye. The President stated that “this monumental victory belongs not only to the Turks of Anatolia but to the entire Turkic world”, and “stands as a timeless proof that no force can overcome the Turkish nation when they stands united”.
