11 March, 2016National Unity Party (UBP) leader Hüseyin Özgürgün called for the clarification of the issues that EDEK leader Marinos Sizopulos alleged on which a consensus was reached between the Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades and President Mustafa Akıncı.
In his written statement Özgürgün stated that the Greek Cypriot side is the only responsible side in failing to reach the expected result at the ongoing intercommunal talks since 1968. Indicating that Greek Cypriot EU deputy Eleni Theoharus clearly mentioned that South Cyprus’s life source is “the vision of unification with Greece”, Özgürgün criticised Theoharus’s statements as “Turkish Cypriots are minorities in Cyprus with their only 17% ratio in Cyprus which is a Helen island.”
