22 June, 2016Fire extinguishing operations in South Cyprus continue and have intensified since yesterday morning.
A total of 16 aircraft including some from South Cyprus, Greece and Israel were sent to control and put out the fire, and four more were expected from France and Italy.
It was announced that during the fire extinguishing operations, two fire-fighters who were injured as a result of a tanker accident, have tragically lost their lives.
UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide conveyed his condolences regarding the fire-fighters who lost their lives in Trodos.
According to Greek Cypriot news sources, this fire is one of the worst in history.
